This word also means "right" (like it is used in birth-right), entitlement or that which belongs to. It is used for the different days in a week because each day is supposed to belong to or associated with each of the planets or stars. திங்கட் கிழமை means Monday and it is supposed to be a day in honour of Moon or "belonging to moon". My கிழமை means what belongs to me by right (not an everyday use, but it is a literary use). The word for an old man கிழவன் means one who had inherited the rights on this planet for having lived long years. நிலக் கிழார் means one who own s a land (நிலம் = land).
